Not at all. Oyster Ready is designed for complete beginners. Whether you’ve never touched an oyster or you’re just looking to build confidence on the floor, this course covers the basics in a clear, accessible way.

Who are the instructors?

Oyster Ready is led by Oyster Master Guild founders Patrick McMurray and Julie Qiu. Together, they offer over 50 years of experience in oyster hospitality and storytelling. Learn more about OMG and the founders.

Does this course include the certification exam?

No. Oyster Ready is a short, introductory course and does not include a formal certification or exam. If you’re interested in earning a Level 1 Certification from the Oyster Master Guild, check out our Oyster Appreciation Fundamentals course.

What’s the difference between Oyster Ready and the Level 1 Certification Course?

Oyster Ready is a fast, 30-minute introduction focused on practical service skills—great for frontline staff. Level 1 Oyster Appreciation Fundamentals is our full-length (6 module / 6-8 hour self-study) certification course that's designed for professionals and enthusiasts who want to achieve a deeper level of understanding about oyster flavor, farming, sourcing, and tasting techniques.

Do you offer group or team discounts for this class?

Yes! We offer discounts for hospitality teams, restaurants, and retailers of different sizes:
- Small teams: $195 annual for up to 10 students (2 simultaneous learners)
- Medium teams: $395 annual for up to 25 students (4 simultaneous learners)
